New Releases May 15th

This is another good week for album releases.

First, screw Pitchfork's 5.2 rating for Wilco's Sky Blue Sky. I like it. It definitely deserved at least another point. You did good, Jeff Tweedy. Key tracks for me are, "What Light" and "On and On and On."

I'm telling you, it's better than the latest Bloc Party album, which Pitchfork generously gave them 7.5 (really generous). P4K is so inconsistent these days.

Next up is Rufus Wainwright's Release The Stars. The album has probably been guarded tightly in the Geffen vaults because we can't find a leaked copy of it anywhere! From what I've heard so far, it is certainly worth checking out.

His voice has such a great color to it! The song structures are also solid, playing with all of our favorite classical music tricks. It's obvious that he came from a family of music (eprops to Loudon and Kate!) After listening to "Going To A Town," which easily could have been a cheesy song, I'm definitely sold. You can preview another track entitled, "Sanssouci" on his Myspace page.

Also, I also got a chance to check out Six Degrees Record's Spanish Harlem Orchestra's United We Swing. This is random and not typical indie, I know. But how can you hate this? A little Nuyorican salsa never hurt anyone. These 13 songs will make you feel good.. promise.
