Check It Out: Neoangin

On Friday night, an acquaintance of mine had her birthday party in the back room of a Korean BBQ restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. For entertainment and music, she asked her friend Jim Avignon to play.
Jim Avignon, a Berlin native, is the one-man band called Neoangin. He definitely got the party going on Friday, and his LP Scratchbook does not disappoint.
I guess you could classify Neoangin's music as techno, with a dash of rap. He is very popular in the Berlin techno subculture, and it seems that he has recently moved to Williamsburg. And for that, we here in New York are lucky. He doesn't have any shows listed on his myspace, but he does play a lot around the city and if you happen to see him on the bill of a venue one day, I highly recommend that you go check him out. His music is just really fun and danceable, with steady and constantly changing beats but without the bass line that'll make you go deaf.
Here's one of my favorite tracks off Scratchbook, "The Moron:"

Avignon is also an amazing artist, so be sure to check out the artwork for Scratchbook because it contains a different drawing for each song on the album.
