Hey Everybody! Of Montreal Did Karaoke

Oh baby. What a night last night (April 14th) was. New York Magazine hosted it's first New York by New York event at Studio B, Indie Rock Karaoke. It was kind of a lethal combination: Of Montreal + Karaoke + Michael Showalter & friends + Flosstradamus.

At about 945PM, Of Montreal took the stage at Studio B in Greenpoint, Brooklyn (which is a bitch to get to). Steph and I got there just in time. They rocked the house for 50ish minute set, complete with plenty of antics, including a mustachioed man in a hooded body suit that came on stage with various props throughout the set. Kevin Barnes was on fire and had about 4 costume changes; he even got on a ladder at one point.

After a short break, Michael Showalter did a short little act as Alan Shemper, during which he got so frustrated with his fake mustache not staying on that he took it off and humped it a little.

He then proceeded to bring Of Montreal back up on stage and let the karaoke antics begin. There was a false start with "Rock N Roll Tonight," performed by a land shark, but then it was straight into the regularly scheduled set with "All Day And All Night," sung by a Beatles-esque dressed Jesse. A few songs later in the set came "Sweet Child 'O Mine," which is always a highlight. This chick Amy (and her friend Keith) sang and she was pretty amazing.

Later, Michael Showalter sang "Need You Tonight." He didn't know that the verses repeated so often and couldn't find where to end the song, so Dottie Alexander from Of Montreal had to step up to the mic to help him out. Aw.

Next my boyfriend, Paul Rudd (I wish), and David Wain got up and sang a smashing rendition of "More Than A Feeling." I wanted to sing that! But, oh well, I'll settle for watching Rudd and Wain fondle the mic stands any day.

To be continued tomorrow!
