The Walkmen, Kaiser Chiefs: Roseland Ballroom Sucks

Last night [April 12th], I went to Roseland Ballroom to see The Annuals (who I ended up missing), The Walkmen and Kaiser Chiefs.

The Walkmen put on a decent set. They weren't very energetic, but I kinda understand because it's hard to be energetic when the crowd sucks. People were talking through their entire set, and most people weren't even watching the band. During their 30 minute set, they played a few songs off A Hundred Miles Off, one of the highlights being "All Hands & The Cook."

One of the things that sucked the most at Roseland yesterday, besides the crowd made up of either drunk frat boys or 30-something professionals that just stood there, was the sound. The mixing was horrible. All I could hear were keys and drums. Sometimes vocals. Nothing else. I don't know who was running the board, someone from the bands or someone from Roseland, but they need to run better sound checks or something.

The Kaiser Chiefs looked really good. The band sounded tight and the frontman has such great evergy. But oh god, the light show! I alternately felt like I was going blind and going to have a seizure. The lights were insane. Highlight of their set: "Ruby."
