Controversy: Music Hall of Williamsburg

Uh oh, looks like there are some problems with the new venue Music Hall of Williamsburg, formerly known as the beloved NorthSix.

Neighbors of the venue are not happy about the new plans, which include getting rid of the second floor in order to achieve higher ceilings, thereby increasing club capacity to 550. This increase is actually quite small, when you think about it, going up from a 400 person capacity.

Read a transcript of a conversation between Jeff Steinhauser (NorthSix owner) and one of the angry neighbors at Gothamist.

The neighbor, Dan McCarthy, worries about the additional noise and trash that will come with the expansion of the venue. But Steinhauser makes some very good points, including the argument that just because one person's lifestyle changes does not mean that their surroundings change, and so you can't expect a neighborhood that has been bustling to suddenly calm down.
