Cross-Pollination In New York

New York-based label Family Records released their second record yesterday, Cross-Pollination: The Mixtape Vol. 1.

Cross-Pollination is a free weekly concert series that takes place in the Lower East Side at Pianos. On most Tuesday evenings, you can find two artists playing, each doing their own solo set. Then the artists combine and perform a few songs together.

"We decided to release the mixtape for free because it's a way for us to give back to the audience who has supported us for the past 3 years, and also to hopefully reach new people looking for great independent music to discover," says Cross-Pollination co-creator Wes Verhoeve, who also is a member of the Undisputed Heavyweights. "We started Cross-Pollination because we felt the local music scene was so fragmented and thought the collaborative aspect of the series was our contribution to fostering more of a community feel. It's great to see how artists we've brought together sometimes end up forming bands, or going on tour together."
