Beat Up Old Scientists
On Saturday night [June 9th], I headed down to Mercury Lounge to see Beat Up Old Fellas play, aka We Are Scientists. Performing under a different name, the Scientists debuted all new material from their upcoming release. The last time I saw them was in December at the now defunct Northsix, where they did say that they would be residing in Williamsburg for the next few months to write and record their new album. And write they did.
It was a good set. I didn't know any of the names of the new stuff, but there is one song in particular with "Oh Oh Ohs" that I really liked. And I must say, I've been impressed with their vocals both times I've seen them. The backing vocals are spot on, and really give the band a much bigger sound. And Michael Tapper is an amazing drummer, always on it with that hipster disco beat. Oh, and Justin Rice from Bishop Allen, was the We Are Scientists photographer for the night. Aw indie bands helping each other out! I like it. Also, as you can see from the picture above, Chris Cain shaved off his trademark floppy hair and mustache! New look for a new album?
PS. Chris Cain, I like your bass. Your beat is nice.

And don't forget to see them at Siren Festival next month!
